. . . which has not been cured by my usual remedies of listening to music, walking, playing a game or watching a show/movie.
I'm positively stumped on everything. I need to write for my portfolio.
How do you guys cope with it? Any suggestions on how to get rid of it???

This case has been going on for the large part of six months. >_<
ReplyDeleteMary, have you tried working with prompts? What style are you trying to write in at the moment? Poetry, prose, your novel?

ReplyDeleteMary, do try some of the writing prompts and exercises we've used in class, and allow them to spur your imagination. Don't be afraid that they will cause your writing to be "cookie cutter" in style.
ReplyDeleteAlso, remember the French novelist Gustave Flaubert's advice to writers: "Be orderly and regular in your life, like a bourgeois, so that you can be original and violent in your work."
Not that I imagine you to be guilty of a dissolute lifestyle.
Mary, I agree with the others writing prompts sometimes helps me the most. if not, I think about a conversation I've had with someone recently and that will jumpstart some ideas usually. Or one other suggestion start with a letter to close friend and then work it into a story. Hope one of these works for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys. ^_^
ReplyDeleteHi Mary! One other suggestion focus on something you really like a favorite item or even pet, and see if it helps create any ideas for you. This sometimes works for me. Angel aka Bobbie
ReplyDeleteHey Mary! i was just wondering did you get over your wrier's block? Did you try soem of these suggestions? I hope they helped you. If not try putting your writing aside for a day or two and when you come back to it, you may have some wonderful fresh ideas. Bobbie (aka Angel)
ReplyDeleteHumbleprof! I just wanted to tell you, I thought the exercise we did yesterday was really helpful. At least it was for me. I think I could use about three of the things I wrote down as a spring board for a story. What did the rest of you guys think about this activity we did? And how are your portfolios going? I think I've about got my stories together that I want to use. But poetry, hmm that's another thing. Writing poetry really gives me some trouble.
ReplyDeleteYes, it did help some, thanks Bobbie.
ReplyDeleteOddly enough, I got inspiration for a poem after beating a video game. Go figure, lol.
But I have a couple of ideas and a whole week to myself, so I'll definately have everything together!
